“Happily Ever After”, Swan Storybox £265

Past Pieces

This “Happily Ever After”, Swan Storybox features two incredibly pretty, delicate looking, vintage 1930’s metal painted (possibly lead) toy swan figures, swimming off together, and forming a little heart with their necks. They are flanked by handmade bullrushes, with antique silk-taffeta leaves. The background is a watercolour from early 1900, depicting a pond scene, surrounded by distant trees. The words “happily ever after” I have sculpted from wire, and hand-sewn on to the background. The pond the swan’s swim on I have hand-painted, on to vintage silk ribbon. The box it is all housed in is a stunning olive green velvet and silk Victorian box, circa late 1800’s. It stands on 4 tiny turned wooden feet, which are actually pieces of 1920’s chess pieces – pawns in this case. The handle to the top is an unused French parcel handle, circa early 1900 (historically, these were used to carry bundles of string tied parcels whilst out shopping!)

It measures a total of 18.5cm wide x 19cm tall (including handle and feet) x 3.5cm deep.

Please note that my sculptures are not suitable for children.
