“Heartbeat at my Feet” Storybox Sculpture

Past Pieces

“Heartbeat at my Feet” is today’s completed storybox. It is set within an exquisite antique timeworn green velvet box, circa 1900, with wonderful arts and crafts metalwork to the rear, and to the top a vintage brass handle circa 1900. It sits of little glass bun feet, which are beads from antique lace bobbins. Inside, the storybox backing is the most beautiful antique lakeside watercolour, dated 1891, in delicious lilacs, golds and greys. The grass, I have made from antique hemp, which I have dyed with inks, and there is a tiny wirework flower, painted purple, next to the rock also. The rock is a piece of slate, which I have hand-painted to look like it is covered in lichen. Upon that sits a darling little hand-painted Yorkshire Terrier, with a red bow in her hair. Skipping towards her is a little girl with her skipping rope, circa 1950. The quote reads “My little dog – a heartbeat at my feet”, which is by Edith Wharton.
